Talent Shortage?

By Matt Raffel on March 04, 2025

I’m just sharing a couple of crazy reasons I was rejected for interviews:
* Having less than two years’ experience at a given job
* Having worked on open-source projects
* Having a side gig (in this case, Tatman Games)

I had no opportunity to discuss this with the hiring agent—it was simply an outright rejection.

I recently saw a post from an executive complaining about a labor shortage. I don’t know what his criteria are for determining if someone is worthy of hiring—however, if they’re anything like the above, it’s no wonder there’s a talent shortage.

It’s time to change our views on what qualifies as quality talent.
